The Castle and Markets in Antananarivo

Antananarivo, the capital of Madagascar, was such a unique place to explore! We started our day by visiting the Rova of Antananarivo, an old royal palace perched high on a hill overlooking the city. The castle itself has a lot of history and character, with old stone walls and incredible views of the surrounding city and landscape. Walking through the grounds, we could almost feel the echoes of Madagascar’s royal past, which made it feel even more special. After the castle, we headed down to the bustling local markets. The markets here are packed with everything from fresh produce and spices to beautiful handmade crafts and colorful fabrics. The vibrant colors, the smells of spices in the air, and the energy of the place made it such a sensory experience. We picked up a few souvenirs and even tried some delicious local street food. The vendors were so friendly, and they seemed happy to share a bit about their crafts and products. Exploring the markets gave us a real taste of everyday life in Antananarivo, and we loved every minute of it. Between the historic castle and the lively markets, we got to experience both the old and new sides of this fascinating city. It was a day full of discovery, and one that left us wanting to see even more of Madagascar’s unique charm!
