The Blue Lagoon was the very first thing we did after getting off the flight, and honestly, we can’t think of a better way to kick off a trip to Iceland. After a long flight, stepping into the warm, mineral-rich waters surrounded by black lava rocks and rising steam felt like the ultimate welcome. The contrast of the chilly air and the toasty lagoon was instantly relaxing, and it helped shake off any lingering travel fatigue. We wandered through the different sections of the lagoon, slathered on the iconic white silica face masks, and just floated around for a while, taking in the surreal views. It was a little cloudy, which added to the mystical feel, with steam curling up around us and soft light filtering through. We didn’t book any extra spa treatments, but just being in the water was more than enough. It might be a popular tourist spot, but for good reason—it’s unique, peaceful, and feels like an Icelandic rite of passage. Starting the trip here set the tone perfectly for the rest of our adventure.
